Riabianca Garcia, MD, brings more than half a decade of experience in internal, preventive, and family medicine to Prominis Medical Services, serving patients in the Clinton Hill and Park Slope offices.
Before pursuing a career in medicine, Dr. Garcia studied the arts. She participated in the Art as a Source of Healing course at the Rhode Island Institute of Design in Providence. She also completed a study abroad studio arts program in Florence, Italy, as a student at Syracuse University in Syracuse, New York. The following year, Dr. Garcia enrolled at Brown University, also in Providence, and earned her Bachelor of Arts in visual art. While at Brown, Dr. Garcia became interested in medicine, completing a program in liberal medical education.
After graduation, Dr. Garcia moved to Germany and spent the summer participating in medical seminars. The first was a tropical medical seminar at the University of Rostock in Rostock, Germany, and the second was a comparative medical ethics seminar at the University of Tubingen in Tubingen, Germany. Dr. Garcia subsequently returned to the United States and enrolled in the Warren Alpert School of Medicine at Brown University, where she obtained her Doctor of Medicine.
Following graduation, Dr. Garcia headed west and participated in a family medicine residency at the California Hospital in Los Angeles. As a resident, Dr. Garcia trained under Dr. Armaity Austin and gained exposure to meditation, yoga, acupuncture, nutrition, art therapy, Ayurveda medicine, traditional Chinese medicine, Latino folk medicine.
Dr. Garcia is board-certified and started her career at Hayward Wellness Center in Hayward, California. As a staff member, Dr. Garcia provided care to the underserved population, treating patients of all ages. Before joining the team at Prominis Medical Services, Dr. Garcia also served at Tremont Health Center in the Bronx.
